23.01.2022 Great news! We are ahead of where we thought we would be in driving down coronavirus numbers. Thanks to the efforts of all Victorians, today we announced that A...LL primary students in metro Melbourne can return to face-to-face teaching in the week of October 12. This is a wonderful outcome for all primary students, but particularly for Year 6 students in their final year of school. It’s such a milestone year in young people’s lives and I know how much everyone was hoping for a quick return. They can now celebrate their last ever term in primary with their schoolmates and teachers, and look forward to the exciting transition to secondary school. We always said that as soon as we got public health advice, we would return other students to face-to-face teaching. All metro primary students will join special school students and VCE and VCAL students in face to face teaching on site. Schools will make local decisions on what day students return during the week of the 12th. Remote learning continues to play a key role in significantly reducing the movement of people across the state. For that reason, a decision has not yet been made on the return of secondary students in years 7 to 10. As always that will be guided by our health experts and the state’s coronavirus numbers. A massive thank you to all of the school staff, parents and carers, and our students who have played a huge role in making remote learning work. You have all made a big difference to our success as the coronavirus numbers continue to fall.

13.01.2022 This is my most widely shared post. And rightly so, it’s an important one. These are prewriting patterns, with the average (not prescribed) age at which child...ren are developmentally ready to achieve these patterns listed below them in years and months. Being able to process visual information and produce a movement in response (e.g. copying these prewriting patterns or letter formations), is known as visual motor integration. Note that an X is not typically achieved until 4 years 11 months, and a triangle at 5 years 3 months. If a child can’t form these basic shapes...then they probably won’t be able to form letters. It is quite concerning then that there are 3 year 7 month olds starting formal schooling, where they’re expected to write. Not only are their visual motor integration skills not developed enough, their hands are also physically under-developed. In addition, recognising letters, understanding phonics and beginning to read are all needed in order for a child to write meaningfully, skills which children starting kindy typically don’t have. We also know that when a child learns something that doesn’t hold meaning, it‘s unlikely to stick. So if you have a 3-4 year old who spontaneously asks or attempts to write letters, that’s great; otherwise, there is no need to initiate or worry about this. Unfortunately there is a misconception, particularly with the way that the current curriculum stands, that earlier is better. Earlier is not always better. 13.01.2022 Thank you to the beautiful Dong family for sharing these delicious mooncakes with us to celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (Mooncake Festival). It is a reunion time for families, similar to Thanksgiving. Lanterns of all size and shapes are carried and displayed as beacons to light our way to prosperity and good luck. Mooncakes, a rich pastry typically filled with sweet-bean or lotus-seed paste, are traditionally eaten during the festival. Happy Mooncake Day! ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Autumn_Festival
